Sat at Historia
Etc set at Historia, Sat 15 Oct: the brand-new high E-string broke as I was setting up onstage. Peppermint Lounge to the rescue - bless them. Archie (from Peppermints) was concerned, and talking numbers. I assume it something about the gauge. Like I'd know. But I guessed he was cautioning me it was a heavy number. Told him it's ok, I tune down anyway. He went "Why?" Er... Surreal to be having this conversation so casual when we're meant to be starting.
We were then impressed to be asked by Amylouise (?) if she could take photos. Appreciated that. Often wonder where all those shots taken of us by unknowns go. So if you know Amyloise, tell her to say hello.
Set sounded clear in the audience but thunderous, like I've never experienced, onstage. Couldn't make out what Vinita was playing. It was just BASS. And how much electricity was I conducting? Shocks off the mic. And horrible hum if I took my hands off the neck (for illustrative hand-gestures). Did Dan the repairman mess up my cheapie Korea TGM guitar all the more?
NB: Pepped-up songs (chosen after bopping and singalongs of the previous Wed). But the crowd was more attentive than jumparound.
- Handphones On The Dancefloor
- Pretty Fall
- Superhero (Incognito)
- Malaysian Trucks
- Astrogal
- Big Girl's Blouse (for Wayne Rooney?)
- What'cha Gonna Do About It? (orig The Small Faces)
- Bungalow
- Stupid Supermarket
[ + 4th of July (orig Galaxie 500 ]
[ + Temptation (orig New Order) ]
Turns out the people skulking outside were Steve Vai twiddlers (and pals) who were on after us. How we must have confounded them.
Was told by someone we reminded them of an Australian band called The Pictures.
We don't have a crowd. Or, we do but they generally stay at home? Or go elsewhere when we're playing.
