Blame it on the Weather?

Not sure if I can blame it all on Singapore's current temperature or the new level of horrific stuffiness where I work, but my brain might be melting. I just looked up the medical definition of lethargy and see it's a pathological state, so I hope that's not it. I *do* feel tired, but I think I got enough sleep. Feels like a hangover, but it can't be since there's not been any alcohol. Perhaps I'm still recovering from recent Etc session (new recruit said: "invigourating"). Or I am just listing my state as an excuse to post a clip of a cat playing a theremin? It's not like I need an excuse since I like cats and I like theremins. Happy Monday. Get well soon.

You're going to become one of those old people who watch badly hosted afternoon tv shows on america's funniest animals.

And the problem with that is...?

And who's to say I am not one of those already? It might suit me just fine. Especially if I get to see cats playing theremins. The one in the clip exhibits more musical talent, curiosity, originality and willingness to explore than anything I've seen on telly in recent years. Or at most gigs I've been to for that matter.

How Vile is TV Mobile?

Hold on - '*become* one of those old people...'? Do I have a choice? One simply needs to take the bus in Singapore and TV Mobile is enough to make one decay into a state of instant decrepitude as the very-such shows you describe are foisted upon us. And that's if you're lucky. I'd rather have animals caught on camera than what one tends to find on (when one looks up from one's book of course, irritated by the insistent frequencies TV Mobile fries are minds with), but every time I get on a bus it's My Sassy Neighbour or various equally awfully-acted 'dramas' with talent-free pillocks pretending to be heroes of Civil Defense / Police. And my response (after the urge to kick the screen in - which is useless since the sound will still boom out of the speakers): go and tell the drive TV Mobile is on too loud. Generally they seem to agree. Various interesting conversations have followed. This is all part of my toying with various methods to let my dislike of TV Mobiles be known. Details will be revealed soon.

Damn it, it would be simpler to just watch one the programmes instead wouldn't it?

Wait a minute... how do *you* know what they show on afternoon telly. Why aren't you saving forests / playing music / kickboxing / reading / writing instead?

The bus I take back home now doesn't have TV Mobile. I'm pretty sure you can guess how happy that makes me. However, last year, the bus I took from school to the mrt station had TV Mobile and once my friend and I got scolded by a teacher for (loudly) making fun of the horrible acting.

What methods? Do tell.

I am a victim of sloth and during many a school holiday I have resorted to watching afternoon TV. Unlike you, I actively allow the degeneration of my intellect. Not that that should be acceptable, of course. Fortunately, these days, even my 'holidays' are packed and I hardly have time for that.

it is bliss to board a quiet bus. at least i do feel elated when it happens to me these days.

methods? as i said, i am still toying. i began leaving post-it notes next to the screen or speakers - but they'd curl up pretty fast. one gentleman said it was my fault i was unable to block TV mobile out. he said i'd be able to if i tried harder.

talking to the drivers and asking other people if they find it too loud. once established no-one wanted it on and went and told the driver. he said he couldn't turn it off... i acted friendly and smiley and said 'oh, ok then. thank you' then i said they had on another bus i once took. and left it at that. 30 seconds later it miraclously switched off.

i have stumbled off the bus at terminals and let the blokes from SBS standing round know that i have a headache. in such communications i enjoy asking: 'i hope they pay you more since they can afford TVs'.

so what next?

* the "TV Mobile Is Vile" facebook group I am still getting round to.
* letters to paper or SBS proposing quiet areas on the buses. same concept as the yellow box for smokers. this idea we sell as buses having a need for 'Study Areas'. wah... cannot fail one. Is true you know ... parents will nod and be pleased. hubbing for excellence angle - sure must push
* the complete dissolution of the use of speakers. since everyone and their dog seems to own a h/phone or ipod or whatever else, it's not a stretch for them to use FM receivers is it? TV mobile can in fact promote themselves by selfishly dishing these out as freebies for those that wish to tune in. if they really want: they can dish out these tuners tuned-in permanently to the TV mobile frequency.

but don't tell anyone i told you ok?

Dear Miss,

Thank you for your kind suggestion that I do not "actively allow the degeneration of my intellect." This presumes I had an intellect in the first place. And forgets that I am in band.

Sincerely

Tajmall

and don't forget the gamers.

Yes it's amusing that we must seem so square and fuddy duddy enough if we're the ones to ask for quiet. I might one day document my politically incorrect confrontations relating to this. I am perplexed why tough guys with tats feel the need to broadcast the most cloyingly miserable music I ever heard sung by simpering Japanese or Chinese dolls who make Red House Painters looks like a barrel of laughs.

that's why i carry mine with me at all time. and a walkman w a speaker on it that makes "Super" the cassette version sound musicial. it's the place i recorded "Super" in the 1st place -- off peel ... little did i know i was creating another version of it to go along w/ 33. 45 and 78 versions.

but really - what i do is carry a spare pair of earphones that i politely offer to offenders saying: would you like to use my earphones? and they generally turn off their offending device. or just ignore which turns me into some lost gallagher brother. strangely no one has taken me up on my offer.
